We plan to procure 60 AC Volvos this year and a significant number of them will run on these two routes." Kapoor said that his next big project would be the introduction of mild steel in all MSRTC buses. The state transport buses, both ordinary and semi-luxury, are made of aluminium, which causes maximum injuries to passengers in the event of an accident. The casualties are high in such buses, "If the buses have a mild steel body, it will ensure safety of passengers," he said. Five such buses will be introduced by June-end.
The MSRTC also plans to increase the fleet of its economical Sheetal semi-luxury AC buses which ply various routes, including Mumbai-Pune.
